The Greek tragedians in their pieces referred to a divine intervention when something apparently without solution happened. Deus ex machina literally means "god from the machine". Man and his limits, a costant research about need's satisfations. Useless answer for useless questions.
In the modern age machine means technology, something which could replace god. Progress and scientific development become weapons which make mankind able to defeat his limits. But this can't be considered an objective truth.
